Our plan for East Riding, Hull & Selby

Your local knowledge matters. By listening to what you’ve told us about your neighbourhood, and what our teams see when they’re out and about, we know what we need to focus on to make a difference in East Riding, Hull and Selby.

Overall, 76% of customers here are satisfied with our services. We’re really chuffed with this number, but as always we want to aim higher. We know there’s more we can do, and your feedback is helping us understand where we can make the biggest difference.

You’ve told us you want us to focus on tackling antisocial behaviour, taking better care of shared spaces and being more visible. So that’s where we’ll be putting more of our attention over the coming months.

Your local housing officers

Say hello to Angela and Zoe, your housing officers in East Riding, Hull and Selby!

They’ll be spending more time out and about in our neighbourhoods, getting to know the people and places.

So, if you spot them in your community, why not introduce yourself? It’s a chance to have a chat, tell us what’s going well or let us know if there’s something we need to look into.

If you’d like to get in touch with them, you can email yhplacemanagement@Yorkshirehousing.co.uk

What we're doing in East Riding, Hull and Selby

We want our neighbourhoods to feel safe and be places where people enjoy living.

To make sure this happens, our communities teams will be out and about spotting issues early and stepping in to sort them fast, before they’ve got chance to escalate. When it comes to dealing with problems, we’ll team up with North Yorkshire Council, East Riding Council and the police to make sure there’s a joined up approach for antisocial behaviour, and get advice when we need it from specialist roles like the Dog Legislation Officer.

To bring people together we’ll be focusing on community activities because we know winter can be a lonely time for some people, so getting to know some friendly faces in the community should help with this too.

75% of our customers in East Riding, Hull and Selby are satisfied with communal areas, which is a great start but means we still have some room for improvement.

We’ll carry out regular cleaning and maintenance backed up by checks, to make sure work is being done properly. We’re also looking at how we can make reporting repairs quicker and easier.

Estate inspections will help us spot problems sooner, and where we can, we’ll carry these out with customers. You’ll find dates for the walkabouts at the bottom of this page if you want to join us. We’ll use what you tell us, alongside our local data, to understand which areas need the most attention.
We also want to build a network of community champions, they’ll reflect the diversity of our neighbourhoods and help everyone living there to take pride in shared spaces.

You’ve told us we don’t always get things right. We’re using your feedback to understand where things need to improve and make changes to our services.

This includes improving how we communicate and keep you updated. We'll also use what you tell us to shape improvements and training for our teams.

We’ll keep learning from what you tell us, so we can make things better and reduce the need for you to complain in the first place.

We know from what you’ve told us and the information we’ve got, that some neighbourhoods face more issues with things like antisocial behaviour, so we’re focusing extra support where it’s needed most.

That includes Laurels Farm, Kestrel Garth and Mill Way in Selby, and St James Court in Hull.

You'll see more of our teams in these neighbourhoods to carry out regular estate inspections, and we’ll be using what we know and find out to introduce some more community campaigns. This will help us spot issues sooner and work with customers and local partners to make improvements.

To make sure we have a joined up approach we’ll be working with North Yorkshire Council, East Riding Council, North Yorkshire  and Humberside Police to get to the bottom of antisocial behaviour. And we’ll reach out to organisations like IDAS, Women’s Aid, Mankind, and multi-agency safeguarding groups like MARAC and MAPPA, health and social care teams and voluntary organisations to make sure any vulnerable customers get the support they need.

Want to get involved?

We put our customers at the heart of everything we do. And we know the best way to improve our services is by listening to you. To do that properly, we need you on board to share your opinions and shape what we do.

If you’d like to get involved, just let us know by emailing yhplacemanagement@Yorkshirehousing.co.uk, and your housing officer will be in touch with details of the next inspection in your area.

Local walkabouts

As part of the role of our housing officers and our place plans, we’re spending more time out and about in our neighbourhoods, getting to know local areas and the people who live there.

One way we do this is through regular local walkabouts. These give us the chance to look at what’s working well, spot anything that needs attention and talk with customers about what matters most in their area. We’ll send you an invitation a couple of weeks before each walkabout takes place.

You’ll usually see our colleagues out locally in Yorkshire Housing uniform, so keep an eye out and feel free to stop and say hello.
